Interviewing Customers No. 2

Opportunity: Building a parking space on campus.

This time, I found strangers near parking lots and parking garages.
I asked whether they would recommend incoming students to bring their cars, whether they have a need to park on-campus, and if they think a parking garage would help.
What I learned was a lot of students are peeved by parking. Many students found that parking on campus is a hassle to be avoided. As to whether a parking garage would be the prime solution, I’m not sure anymore, after speaking to some students. It wouldn’t be sustainable, and would it make a difference? UF would just charge more for decals.

I learned that students are a tough crowd to please. On one hand, we feel like we deserve many opportunities more than what UF has to offer. But we have to consider the finances as well. Would fees go up to cover construction? Where is UF putting the money? Questions still linger than I need to ask.

Three tips I'd offer to students: PLAN AHEAD. Don't wait for the last day!!!
Plan to talk to more than 5 people! Some people will say no and that's okay. Move on to the next person.
Take the time to be friendly to them so that they trust you. After all, they're helping you get the grade!

  1. Melissa,
These interviews are awesome! You conducted them very confidently and your questions seemed to flow very well. I really enjoyed hearing a commuter's perspective on parking as well because I did my interviews on on campus parking specifically near sorority row area and got very similar answers as you did. The consensus between most students is that there is not enough parking and I 100% agree. If the university expects to grow, then they should expect to provide more parking spaces to accommodate the amount of students. Thank you so much for sharing Melissa! 2. Hi Melissa,
You did a really good job with your interviews and I like your idea- it's something I think about often. Whenever I have to drive somewhere, I always leave at least 20 minutes early knowing that that is how long I will be driving around searching for parking for. I think that one solution could be that freshmen should not be allowed to bring their cars if they are living on campus. I also agree with Alexandra who commented that since the University is building and growing, they need to incorporate parking into the equation as well or the problem will just get worse. Here is a link to my blog- I took a different approach but like getting feedback- http://daniellesteinent3003.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html

  3. If you asked me about parking about UF, you probably wouldn't have enough memory on your phone to store everything I have to say. This is a very good topic to talk about. Parking at UF is a problem and issue for many people. Getting them to express their opinions on the subject is a very good topic for interviews. Also, your tips are extremely helpful to someone who is having trouble with this assignment. All-in-all, very good job.
